TURKEY bowed down CHINA

Bronze medalist in 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix, Turkey, bowed down from the strong Chinese squad during the match yesterday.

The Chinese survived from the Turkish claws in a 5-setter game, (3-2), 19-25,  25-17, 25-20, 15-25, 15-10.

It was  very evident that the Turkish squad had a strong dominance in their opening set and easily swallowed the Chinese in 19-25.

But the Asian powerhouse bounced back in the next two sets and outscored turkey in 25-17, 25-20 respectively.

Turkey was trying to snatch the match and bounced back in the 4th set, 15-25 and forced China to play the deciding set.

The Turkish tried their best to outsmart the Chinese but the latter was so unstoppable and sealed the match in 15-10 leaving Turkey another loss for this week's matches.

BRAZIL and RUSSIA : Gold & Silver

The Olympic champ, Brazil, outsmarted the young Russian team in 3 straight sets, (3-0), 25-23, 25-23,25-22 during their final match in Montreux Volley Masters 2013 in Switzerland. What a game for the Brazilians!

In their opening set, the Russians started to go ahead with the Brazilians with their good offense and defense. But the Olympic champ made their run and went ahead, 25-23.

It was a series of see-saw scores in the second set with the superb Russian blocks but Fe Garay of Brazil was really unstoppable and led her team to go ahead, 25-23.

The third set, chance of Russia to bounce back, however, Brazil started well. But the Russians didn't stop to tail the Olympic champ. Because of Brazil's persistence to close the match, they sealed it at 25-22 with a cross-court hit.

However, it can be noticed that the Russians didn't give in easily against the strong Brazilians.

So, Brazil bagged the gold and silver for Russia. Meanwhile, Dominican Republic defeated Italy in 4 sets, (15-25, 25-22, 25-18, 26-24)  during their bronze medal match.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, BRONZE MEDALIST

The tough Dominicans finished third after they defeated Italy in four sets, 3-1 (15-25, 25-22, 25-18, 26-24).
Finally, the Italians bowed down their heads to the strong Dominicans .

It was an undesirable start from the Dominicans in the opening set due to their faulty and bad receptions. So, the Italians utilized the chance to get an easy win with their accurate attacks and kills above the nest.

But the second set has changed for the Latina ladies, though the European powerhouse continued with their superb offense and defense. However, Dominican Republic went ahead, 25-22.

The third set showed more aggressive Dominicans in their offense. With their powerful attacks plus beautiful serves made them win the set, 25-18.

It was the last set for the Italians to force the Dominicans in a decider. Both squads were trying to go ahead to seal the match but the latter responded well and ended 4th set, 26-24.

Congratulations for both squads. Great job from the Italians who really fought well in this year's Montreux volleyball tournament.

A Letter from A Volleyball Coach

When I opened my Gmail inbox today, I've got a letter from a Canadian volleyball coach who happened to read my entry blogs about  volleyball.

I was delighted since this is my first time to encounter someone who got interested to bring goodwill through volleyball in the Philippines.

Of course I made a reply about this matter and I hope it will bring a good result.

Here is the copy of his message:

TEMPLE RUN 2

Temple Run 2 is an "endless running" video game. A sequel to the original game, it was released on January 17, 2013 on the App Store for iOS.It was later released on Google Play for Android devices on January 24, 2013. A version for Windows Phone is currently under development, although the release date has not been announced. (Wikipedia)

Whenever I get bored at home, I play this game in my iPad2. It is such challenging. It is very interesting. At first, I was having a hard time to play since I'm not really familiar about the techniques to get high scores. Until such time I learned them after a month. I can't stop myself from playing this addictive game. Thanks to Apple Store, it's free. (I'll post some photos next time about this game)

SUMMER IS ALMOST OVER

Summer is really fun! People enjoy to stay under the heat of the sun!

It's the last week of May and soon summer will be over. People are trying to enjoy the remaining days before they say goodbye for  SUMMER!

Summer in the Philippines starts in March. And it usually ends in May. Three months of having hot weather. Filipinos love to go to the beach. Mostly beach resorts are fully booked as early as the summertime begins.

From Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao or to any part of the Philippines, everyone is busy during summer days.

I Started A Joke ... Define jokes?

Different things happen everyday!

People are always busy here, there and everywhere. One of the things people do is telling jokes. Yes, it's true! We love to laugh. We like to talk with humor. But what is a joke?

A famous website, Wikipedia defines joke as something spoken, written, or done with humorous intention. Jokes may have many different forms, a single word or a gesture (considered in a particular context), a question-answer, or a whole short story. The word "joke" has a number of synonyms, including wisecrack, gag, prank, quip, jape and jest., To achieve their end, jokes may employ irony, sarcasm, word play and other devices. Jokes may have a punch line, i.e. an ending to make it humorous.

When a person laughs, a joke has been delivered well. It really entertains people - our family members, our friends, our relatives, our classmates, and many others. Since LAUGHTER is the resulted outcome in general, we really love telling and hearing jokes. It unwinds stress, it eases our mood, it brings joy and happiness.

But sometimes, people who tell jokes go beyond their limits and borders. When they hurt other feelings and emotions, they seem to be already foul. They become not funny anymore.

It's a different side of the story to tell when someone  hurts the emotions and feelings when jokes go beyond its subject.  We should be careful of delivering it, of telling it and of doing it.

DINDIN SANTIAGO - SEASON 10 MVP "SHAKEY'S V-LEAGUE"

One of the local volleyball players that I really admire is ALEONA DENISE SANTIAGO, aka as "DINDIN". She started to play for the Lady Tigresses of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST). Then, she transferred to join the Lady Bulldogs of National University (NU).  For the 10th season of the Shakey's V-League, Dindin, a 6'1",  joins the tournament, together with her sister, Jaja, who stands 6' 4".

Dindin bagged the MVP Award for the Shakey's V-League Conference. The highest award given by the SVL was presented to Dindin who stood above the other best players of each competing team.

HAGNA : I REALLY MISS THIS PLACE

Missing someone or something is a natural feeling anyone and anybody could have. I miss a lot of things. I miss a lot of people. But I always hope that someday and sometime in the future, I would surely see them.

One of the places that I really miss is hagna. Hagna is our native term for a ricefield. I live in the Eastern part of Visayas region of the Philippines. People are called here "Waray-waray" (none in English). We also speak the Waray-waray language. It's like a combination of three dialects, Ilonggo and Cebuano and Tagalog. Cebuano is the nearest of it, a vernacular of Cebu City, the "Queen City of the South" and the "Oldest City" of the Philippines.

This hagna above shows planted rice almost near for harvest. It was taken in March of last year. I asked my parents if I could harvest them in advance but to no avail. :D

People will plow the hagna twice a year. The purpose is to break and loosen the soil. Farmers are busy doing during the months of November, December, April and May.

TENACITY

Every one of us has a goal to achieve, a career to follow and a life to grow. It is a fact that every individual always tries to do his best to attain his goals in life, to be successful his career and to live life to the fullest. However, it’s not easy to do it. There are obstacles in life to be eradicated. They are the barriers throughout the journey of achieving these desired goals, these chosen careers and these nurtured lives. They affect too much before we achieve the fruit of success. They make us frown, they make us disappointed, they make us burned out, they make us cry and much worse is, they make us totally hopeless. How do we deal with these dilemmas in life to accomplish our goals? How are we going to reach and hit the target? Perhaps you have asked your many friends, you have consulted many experts and you have taken many actions to seek advices from the different professionals because you have that burning desire to succeed in life. But sometimes we forget that the actions to top out our achievement lie in our very own tenacity. And you would even wonder about it – our very own tenacity? Yes, precisely, it is a character that is often left out in molding our hopes and ambitions, and essentially, in climbing the ladder of success.

There are many definitions of this word. The very short and simple meaning that truly catches everyone’s mind is “persistent determination”. Another meaning states that “tenacity is having the quality to be determined to achieve a goal. People who are tenacious are typically very stubborn about achieving their goal no matter what their limits or what stands in their way”. Why are they described as very stubborn? Is it because they are difficult to manage? Certainly and definitely not! It is because they have the ideal focus to drive their determination to achieve their objectives. And this ideal focus goes with persistent perseverance that serves a strong and powerful weapon to combat all the negative adversaries in life. It is truly significant to combine focus and perseverance to fulfill and carry out the vision to succeed. Are the adversaries helpful to be more persistent to move on? A person needs to strengthen his mind and direct his will to be what he wants to be, to find what he seeks for and to achieve what he dreams up. The famous Alexander Graham Bell once said “What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it”. Is this the tenacity that he refers to? Yes, it is. Tenacity exists and is available to function when we want to achieve something. Just like our full determination will activate to pursue and follow the dreams. This will not stop until we succeed.

.     It’s not easy to possess tenacity in life. Likewise, it’s not easy to attain success in life. Determination is there but often misused. We partly say “I have the determination” but it doesn’t show. Simply, it is because the essence is not used well according to its desired purpose. The execution is weak. The motivation is lacking. How can you get the success that you want if you are directed to a wrong practice? Yes, there is the tenacity that you want but you’re not using it well. Like what Nathaniel Bronner Jr. has uttered, “Success is often not a matter of talent, but a matter of tenacity”. When our determination is not persistent, we can’t survive until the finish line of our dreams. There would be a particular moment to hang on and specific reason to stop. We are given talents to use and be enhanced as we live along the shadows of our dreams. However, the lack of tenacity leads us to be incomplete. And we ask ourselves, “Where did I go wrong? I did my best but it wasn’t enough. How can I go on to achieve these shattered dreams?”

Now, you tend to go back from the start to visualize and reflect what you’ve done. Where did your tenacity go? We should not forget the powerful line from a poem of Sri Chinmoy, it is written “No determination of the mind, no transformation of the life”. He emphasized that our determination starts from the mind. It explains us to think the ways on how to succeed, on how to transform our life into the realm of accomplishment. How will you transform in order to hit the dimension of success will depend on how you practice your tenacity. How far will your persistent determination go will depend on how you carry out the possibilities and opportunities to succeed in life. Let your firmness and persistence serve as the guiding light to follow the track of success. Let tenacity shines until you touch the rewarding moment of success!

AN ESSAY ABOUT FEARS

I love writing essays. Short essays! Here is my second winning piece in the IOTS Essay contest.

WHEN FEARS ATTACK

Fear is an anxious feeling. It is a kind of feeling that is caused by danger or something perilous. There are various conditions wherein the feeling of apprehension arises. This is an emotion which is hard to control especially in an overwhelming risky situation. People are alarmed because we are reminded to picture of a dangerous scenario. It results to a panic condition. People suffer in an uncontrollable state because of too much fear and anxiety. There are many reasons why people are afraid of something. What and why are people worried about due to a fact that fears aren't controlled. These conditions are quite threatening and very dangerous to them. In a certain context, fear seems a universal emotion because every one of us, consciously or unconsciously, has fear in a particular situation and the like. We have the ability to recognize danger because we can feel it. We anticipate what are the dangerous things will happen.

All people have the instinct to react to an expected danger. Whatever the sources of that fear are factors that control a person's life. The famous Martin Luther King, Jr. once quoted “We must build dikes of courage to hold back the flood of fear”. In his quote, it clearly tells and informs about the different fears surrounding us that in any moment, are ready to attack. However, we must have to gather some blocks of sufficient bravery and fortitude to fight and combat or even eliminate these fears. But the question is how we are going to do that. Where will you get your energy to accomplish all of these? A person must be totally courageous to stand against these bothering apprehensions. He or she must be seriously aware to fight against these anxieties. The flood of fear won’t stop when a person remains weak and is not capable to respond and give an appropriate counterpart to push them away. How strong your dikes depend on how much strength do you possess. The lesser a person has the higher the possibility that he or she will be drowned by his or her fears. On the other hand, the more a person has the lower the probability that he or she would not be swallowed by his or her anxieties.

It is vivid and clear that we are responsible to handle everything when fear is going to attack us. We are going to help ourselves to overcome any fears that will come across our journey. In his inaugural address, Franklin D. Roosevelt uttered, "Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself". If we let fears overshadow us, we will surely lose. But if we remain brave to fight with them and believe ourselves to subdue all the fears, we will be the undefeated champion. They are no match with us. We remain strong and not affected. It will help us boost the confidence that we need to use and face all the fears in life.

FIRST WINNING ENTRY

It was my first time  to join an online essay writing contest. I am a member of International Online Teachers Society over a year ago. International Online Teachers Society (IOTS) was established to improve online teachers qualification, to offer online job opportunities to member teachers and to share applied linguistics, language pedagogy and online, offline educational methodology for the mutual benefit of online, offline teachers in the world. The main activities of IOTS are video lecturing, issuing the certificate of online teachers and publishing global standard online text books to share with IOTSians and students for free of charge. IOTS is also providing free online educational sites contributed by IOTSians with all members of IOTS by posting them on IOTS fan pages.

At first, I was so hesitant to join because I was really afraid since I knew for a fact that many teachers are good joining this contest. It was only during the 23rd edition of the competition that my courage has pushed me to do so. The topic was about "HONESTY". I always read the previous winners and I really found them well and good.

I would like to share my winning entry during the contest. "Be Honest"

We often hear and read this famous quote “Honesty is the best policy”. What is it for? Why do people try to utter and mark this quotation? Whether we like it or not, somehow in a certain point of time, we had encountered this one. If we look into its meaning, honesty is telling the truth. It’s very simple and clear. Honesty is being sincere, truthful, trustworthy, honorable, fair, genuine, and loyal with integrity. It is a very straightforward conduct for every person who wants to live a happy life.  If you are honest to yourself, you feel and react without guilt. You accept your responsibility and you don’t blame others. We evade the consequences of some mistakes and we put the blame to other people sometimes. This is very wrong. Be honest with your feelings. Telling a lie will not definitely help you. If you are considering lying, try to think the consequences later. Could you take the result of doing it? Some people will believe you, but you can’t hide the truth.
You are honest when you turn in a wallet full of money that you found. Don’t be a “finder’s keeper”. Turn in something that is lost and encourage others to do the same. The truth is, it’s not yours. You don’t own it. Find a way on how to return the wallet. Try to think the feelings of the person who lost his it. He really needs it to buy food, to pay his monthly bills, to pay his children’s tuition in school and the like. If you put the situation into your own shoes, what will you do? This question is so simple, however, it will enlighten your mind how honest are you in every situation. One thing that we should not forget when honesty is concerned, the way we express our feelings without anger, without blaming others, without exaggerating, without hurting the feelings of someone else. This is the spirit of truth to put honesty in action. In this way, we are proud to say that honesty echoes the hearts of every person. Be honest even if others are not because you will take the lead to be an example for them.
It is a fact that some people are honest and some are not. They are honest simply because they tell the truth and they make a commitment to do and honor it. A person becomes more truthful if he puts honesty into action. There are multiple reasons why should we tell the truth. First, telling the truth allows everyone to learn from what happened. Second, telling the truth protects innocent people from being blamed or punished. Then, telling the truth helps diminish the chances of misunderstanding, conflict and confusion. Finally, telling the truth makes you feel secure and peaceful inside. In short, be honest.

And this is my certificate ...

Aside from that, I also received a beautiful T-shirt from IOTS. I was so very delighted. People recognized my skill. Thank you IOTS!

I LOVE "VOLLEYBALL".

There are many sports to play in this world. There are many athletes to admire in this world. I love sports.

When I was a kid, I love playing indoors and outdoors. Since I don't have brothers and sisters anymore, I used to play with my dear cousins. My cousins, Joseph and Jessie (they're brothers) are fond of playing basketball. They taught me how to play and it started there how I appreciated ball games. Whenever, they visit our house or vice versa, we always play - basketball.

The time has passed and something has changed. We moved to a new house. My family decided to live in another town. I was kinda sad because I didn't get many playmates in that area. Until one day, the story of liking sports has started. I think I was in the intermediate level, 4th grade, our P.E. teacher has introduced us another ball game. It was the - "VOLLEYBALL".

At first, it was very difficult. We didn't like it. My classmates and I were complaining about it. After that class, our hands were red and we felt the pain due to volleyball. I could hear my classmates they would never play again. Because they were afraid the ball will hit their faces. So, did I. :(

Until one day, our teacher called us for a volleyball practice. He was planning to form a new team for our school. We were hesitant because some of the others didn't respond when he announced in front of the class. But the story favorably changed when all of us agreed. We were persuaded that it's only during the first stage of playing volleyballl is really hard. Once you get used to it, it would be easy. Besides, it's a team sport, too.

I could not remember all the details how we passed those trainings and practices. The best thing I knew was I started to like the sport. I always play with my friends until I studied in high school. There were even days that I was fetched by my mother because I was still in school  around 6 o'clock. Normally, we go home at 5pm. She was sometimes angry because I gave much time to play than to study my subjects. But I never argued with her. I was always quiet whenever she talked about it.

The best thing was we won the championship game when I was in 4th year. The Yellow Team has celebrated with a grateful heart. I was so happy at that time.

University days have come and still I enjoyed the spirit of playing volleyball. I played when I was a freshman. Too bad we were defeated by the string seniors. Hahahaha. I charged it to experience.

When I worked in a private school, I brought and bequeathed the legacy of this sport. I taught my 5th and 6th graders to play volleyball. At that time, the reception was okay. All students  tried to play and they enjoyed. There was a moment wherein I could not tell them to stop. I could see in their faces the longings to play it.

Right now, I still play volleyball sometimes, especially whenever I have a free time. But most of the time, I watch local volleyball matches during may day off, livestreaming volleyball games and read volleyball stories.

Folks, I just love volleyball. I will post some stuff about volleyball next time. :)

I often hear from my friends about blogging. It caused me to read some blogs. They are interesting. They are informative. Some are entertaining. Some are touching. My excitement to write my own blog has increased. Then a friend of mine encouraged me to try. "There's no harm in trying", he added.

Indeed, it was true! It came to a point that I was ready to use my digital pen and paper.  Voila! Here I am now trying to write what's in my mind, what's in my heart. The way I feel and the way I think are my two best tools to try about blogging. I could not write if I don't really feel about it. I could not write if I don't certainly think about it.

There are many things to write with a pen and paper. But in this period where modern technologies are the awesome trends, I have to use my digital pen and paper. They are as sharp and clean as my heart and mind.  Because I have good intentions of doing this. Since I am into writing when I was a child, I bravely challenged myself to bring this out and realize the essence of my skills and abilities. I know everyone has these - talents, skills, abilities, styles and other factors needed to become a good writer.

Yes, I am. I am a frustrated writer because I stopped putting my ideas into writing. I neglected. I ignored. I wasted - THOSE DAYS. Those times were like nothing happened. But the good thing was - I never jealous with the other. I have no reasons to do so. I never got envious with them. The point is - "If others can do, why can't you".

I need enough courage of doing this. It will not be materialized  if I will do nothing. It's never too late. There is still enough time to pursue this endeavor. Great writers started from small beginnings, I may say. When someone likes what you're writing, it proves that there is an essential element of what you do. It means the people who read your work can feel, can understand, can relate, can visualize the significant points of what's in your heart and mind.
